I need your help!

Okay, gang. I need your help once again on recipe ideas. I am throwing a 40th birthday bash (a little late) for hubby and two other friends this weekend. As in, yes-THIS-upcoming-weekend-I'm-having-20-people-over-and-I've-not-had-a-chance-to-plan-anything, weekend. So if you've got any great ideas, help me out, would you please? :-))

I need two things - first, your best-ever favorite recipes for a casual party. We'll have about 20 people, mostly adults. The general menu is cookout - burgers, grilled chicken, that kind of thing - but I need sides and appetizers and maybe a couple drinks to go with. I'm thinking of trying P-dub's chocolate cake, but we'll have to see how far I get on that LOL!

And Martha Stewart I am NOT, so if anyone's got any creative decoration ideas, send 'em on over here!

Thanks so much Ladies (and any Gentlemen reading!)

Love, Dahrlin'

I'm excited for you!!!!! Since it seems to be a casual affair, I would highly recommend my artichoke dip. If you double the recipe, it's perfect for that amount of people. If you don't get Rotel in your area let me know and I will send you 2 cans. I will think more on this. Shrimp cocktail is always good too and you can make your own cocktail sauce. Lay some lettuce leaves down over ice on a platter and lay those little guys out, and then forget about them. You have a lot of things going on so you want to be able to do low maintenance things. Have you decided on a color theme. Even if it's laid-back you can decide on two colors and maybe throw some balloons in the pool.

Also, since I just came off the BBQ thing this weekend, you can make some peppers & onions for some chicken sausages. They can be made ahead of time and just warmed up that day. The sliders I did are cute but not for that large a crowd.

Ok, I've got some for you...

You absolutely HAVE to make mojito granita. Seriously.

And I have the cutest little mini twice baked potatoes that get huge raves.

OR go with the dip I posted today (or is scheduled to post today, depending on when you read this).

OR I have a pasta salad that isn't the oily yucky mess that most are -- it has roasted corn and olives and feta and other yummies in it.

I've also got a great crab and artichoke dip

Let me know if you want the recipes for any of them!

I love the shrimp cocktail (as you may have figured out already) but I wanted to suggest buffalo wings. I have 2 fav ways. 1) grill with garlic salt & old bay on top. Easy & delicious!
2) Bake while basting in Crystal's Hot Sauce & butter sauce. (about 50:50 ratio)

Lots of pre-prepped veggies to fill them up.

Here's a delicious little appetizer: Apricot Rumaki
dried apricots
bacon slices cut in thirds
brown sugar
toothpicks
~wrap each apricot in a piece of bacon; secure with a toothpick. Roll in brown sugar. Put on baking sheet. Bake @ 350F for 20 minutes. Serve with soy sauce or duck sauce if desired.
Sooo yummy!!!

Sounds like you've got some great suggestions from people who know what they're doing. I don't fall into that category. Some of my best party servings come from Sams. As in wholesale. I know, I could do so much better. :-)

I can't top any of the above suggestions, so I won't try. We just celebrated a good friend's 40th, but his wife is CRAZY about going all out. Actually I posted about it - you'll have to come check out the crazy band she had!
:-)
